"A girl may not have the best facial features but when her skin is flawless, she's beautiful."
That was my Mama's advice to me back then when I was a teenager. At thirteen, I remember my skin breaking out with pimples on my forehead. She gave me all of these products ie cleanser, toner and moisturizer for me to apply to my skin day and night. Being a lil Mama's girl, I listened to her and I'm very glad I did. It became a routine, that I implemented into my lifestyle. No matter what, I always cleansed my skin and religiously slathered my face with moisturizer and any beauty products that was supposedly good for my skin. Of course, the pimples disappeared and my skin was back to my normal after the teenage hormones settled down. Lol! But I still took care of my skin!
When I got to my twenties, I maintained the ritual of taking care of my skin. Except this time I had added eye cream, masks, anti-wrinkle/aging, sunscreens into my vast collection of skincare products. Hey, prevention is better than cure right? :P
In my mid twenties, I realized that I had to start eating right because facial beauty products can only do so much. I started buying organic foods, eating more and more vegetables and drinking at least 2 liters of water a day.
With the busy lifestyle of being in the entertainment industry, there are days when my skin can get pretty stressed with all the make-up, long hours and strong lighting that I have to endure. It makes it a little bit harder to maintain good skin but I do it relentlessly anyway. And it paid off! Thank goodness. Alhamdulillah.

It makes it a little bit harder to maintain good skin but I do it relentlessly anyway. And it paid off! Thank goodness. Alhamdulillah.
I start with a good cleanser. I cleanse my face first thing in the morning, and night time before I go to bed. Of course, on days that I have shoots, I will cleanse my face after the shoot. Best to stay away from heavy make-up.
Right after cleansing, I apply toner. This goes on before anything else ie moisturizer, serum, eye gel etc
Like I mentioned earlier on, prevention is better than cure. Its never too early to start making sure your skin doesn't sag down to your chest.
I never ever leave out the eye gel/cream. The skin around the eye is the most sensitive hence why you should always take care of it. Eyes are the windows to the soul after all :)
This is essential for everyone. I cannot stress how important it is to protect your skin with sunscreen. I love this particular one especially as it has "skin tone' base on it. On days when I'm not required to wear make up, this is perfect. Its better than having to put on foundation or powder on your face.
Mama came up with these products a few years ago. My family has always been fans of organic products, making sure that we stay as natural as possible. We have a whole range of other products of course. If you're interested, you can check them out at www.blueoakvalley.com.
Here's to an organic life to us!

I am currently sitting in my living room, listening to the quasi-silence provided by the fact that my mildly rambunctious children are next door playing the Wii with their friends. I could, in fact, hear their Wii commotion from next door -- yes the wall are rather paper-thin here. Anyways, one does a lot of thinking and soul-searching when one has the liberty to be alone. So here I am, typing away what sentiments that come into my mind.
I would like to bring you with me back to last night -- it was about 11.30pm, and I was watching 'The Last Samurai' which was inadvertently interspersed with all the melodic snoring provided by my 3 loved ones who were fast in deep slumber right beside me. I was multitasking, watching the movie as well as keeping up with whatever was happening around me via FB. The movie was nearing the end, it was the scene after The American Captain had to assist The Samurai Katsumoto to commit seppuku, and The Japanese Emperor was about to sign a treaty with The American Ambassador. I took a quick glance at my timeline and saw a shared post by my high school classmate on a single mother who is currently struggling to be as healthy as she can for her 3 children, as well as doing her best to provide for them in financial terms. I felt a pang of sadness deep within me. And a massive sense of guilt for the time i have spent in indulgence.
I do not know her but I went on to read through her writing, mostly the accounts on her battle with the chronic illness she has been trying to beat for the last 5 years. Anaemia, low platelets counts, blood transfusion and numerous hospital visits, all the while looking after the kids, trying to make for 'sesuap nasi'. She has an online business selling different things from 'toto' duvet to kerepek and different sorts of malay condiments. I don't really know how profitable her online venture is but one thing that struck me was, she wasn't there looking for a free ride, not for herself nor her children. She is indeed doing her very best to survive despite or the challenges the come her way. Her way of dealing with her difficulties made me ashamed but grateful at the same time.

Would my readers be ever so kind to visit this lady's blog and read for yourself? Would we be moved to help her even by sincere du'a and well-wishes? Would we be able to spare RM10 for this lady and her children or any amount seikhlas yang mungkin? Nobody needs to know if you are contributing, let that be between you and Him, insya Allah. But I would be humbled if my readers would even consider to help spread the words and du'a for her wellbeing. If you are indeed interested in contributing some financial help for this lady, you could do so by purchasing her goods on her online shop or even any sincere contribution via her bank account which is detailed on her blog. Do read her account and I do hope you will see what I meant. She is not writing for easy money, but if there are compassions from our fellow Moslem I am sure she will be thanking Allah SWT for such help, no matter where it comes from. Who knows, this meagre move towards humanity might just be our ticket to Jannah...?

a few months back, a friend came up to me and said, "you know van gogh during his career as a painter, managed to sell only about one or two paintings during his life, cut off his ears and then committed suicide." he added, what happened after he passed on is now seen as 'success' worldwide which means wealth or money by van gogh's standards can't be a definition of success. to which i agreed.
putting that in perspective though, while i like van gogh, i am almost certain that i have no reason to be him and therefore i don't need to be van gogh to consider myself successful. i too believe that hypothetically, if van gogh was still alive today, he might not think any other better paying profession besides being an artist would fit him.
so i guesss, that just made the first two paras of this entry seemingly pointless. but there is a point to this, in which i believe the definition of success isn't as important as HOW we define it. so are many other definitions in this world, it is HOW we define it that matters and not the definition.
so, how do we define success? fame? followers? power? what? you see each person has his own way of defining success. but when in a group, success then becomes nothing but mathematical averages in which the definition of success is then defined by aligning the views of the majority. saying this means, how the society defines success will reflect the advancement of the society itself.
it is quite apparent that here in malaysia success is still defined by how much money one have. for example, MLM business, i doubt that anyone when he was a kid, wants to sell instant coffee for a pyramid scheme, but all ambitions are lost due to the pressure of keeping up with the society. awarding moviemakers who achieved high box office collection for instance is another example which is rather bizarre. it's like giving money for someone who has a lot of money. whatever one does isn't important for as long as money is in the play. X = money = success in which X here could be anything you could think of. this X is also the reason why a lot of things in malaysia are still in the gutter.
i'm not saying we can't see wealth as a success factor, we can if we want to as i believe we don't all have to be like van gogh to be considered successful. there is no definition good enough to measure success anyway. but one thing i am sure of, for as long as we see success being 'how much money we have,' we will never produce our own van goghs.

This is to comment o Mr. Shahredza Minhat's writing in the Gampang Solo entry.
First of all, I can't agree more with what Redza has to say. I share the same view on cheap movies, for the sake of this entry - Hantu Bonceng. However, I do have a deep concern for the writer writing such a "loud" entry as so, since he is in the industry (yes, we can call it that.. hehe). The industry is so small here in Malaysia. Maybe 'small' is such a small word for to describe how small the industry is - maybe 'minute' is a more suitable adjective. It is so small that you flip the channel on TV, you'd see the same faces. So, him being so critical, albeit true and accurate, may jeapordize his own steppings in the industry. Just being concern here.
1.) on 'sampah'.
Is Hantu Bonceng entirely a 'sampah'? Meh.. I've seen worse. Flat 3A for to name one. However, between 1 to Pusat Pungutan Sampah, I can't really rate Hantu Bonceng there. I can give a plus on effort, at least. Some movies are funny or enjoyable only when you watch it in the cinemas, but when you watch it at home, the magic gone! Same goes with Hantu Bonceng, I guess. My friends who watched it on the big screen complimented it. I watched it at home, find it hard to laugh with it. From time to time, I found myself laughing AT it rather. It is a cheap joke, for entertainment sake, I give them that. They do have managed to tickle people. Their objective achieved, but nothing more.
2) formula.
As I've mentioned before in Twitter. I don't get it why the movie is called as Hantu Bonceng. The Hantu only appears only in the 1st half of the movie, and all that while, she never bonceng on any bike, at all. Even as human, she only bonceng for like less then 1 minute! Shouldn't Hantu Bonceng be an appiration that takes the backseat of a motorbike that scares others who witness it, or making the motorbike becomes suddenly heavy?
Ghost story+Rempit movie formulated in Hantu Bonceng is a total failure. I wanna compare it with Quentin Tarantino's From Dusk till Dawn (1/2 kidnapping movie + 1/2 vampire movie), but that would be an insult.
3) now how does one become responsible?
Too late for that.. Hehe. Yet "quality" is a word simple enough to say, very hard to produce. And I think it is not wrong to say that what Redza has took the words out of my mouth when he wrote that. Hehe.
And please try too hard to make a local meme - "Apa celup?", "Toq (nasalized)", etc. The catchphrase won't make the movie popular, it is the other way around, rather. People love "meme ah", "kita bakor", etc. because the actors successfully played the roles and the characters work!
4) terlalu banyak 'kebetulan'.
Plot - most Malaysian movies have problems in this area. Most of the bad ones do. I don't want to comment on their SFX - that cost money. I don't want to comment on their line of casts - we don't have enough to choose from, really. But PLOT? Really? It is free and the most basic thing one filmmaker has got to take care of. The subplots in Hantu Bonceng have no purpose, other than just to stretch the movie so it would be long enough to be a movie. They don't play any function as any literary device - no foreshadowing, no metaphor, no symbolism - the subplots are stand-alone. Remove any of the subplot, the movie would still make sense.
I don't know whether this is intended or a wardrobe malfunction, remember when Zizan and his partner in crime tried to infiltrate the morgue and they were greeted by the ghost, holding a prosthetic leg and a femur conntected to a tibia? The mystery part here is that, why was she wearing an orange t-hirt?
One 'kebetulan' is when the girlfriend's attempt to confront Zizan at his own home. After knocking the door so many times and loudly, to add to that, to her convenience, she has the opportunity to witness the Nasi Kangkang ritual. Voila! And on the same day, she didn't go to work because she had an "EL" because she had an "MC"? (Two different types of leave) And to the filmmaker's convenience, Zizan don't know about this eventhough they stay in the same house and obviously, he has to give her a ride for work, everyday.
(p/s: May I add that it is still wrong for unwed men and women to stay under one roof even the ration is not 1:1... A threesome is a no-no too, you know.)
5) let's go back to junk food.
I agree with Redza, again. Filmmakers would make 'junk' movies, because the consumers are not too picky. And the consumers are not choosey because, let's face it, there is nothing to choose from after all. It is a Catch 22 Situation all over again. Malaysians are served with movies that they deserve, but not the movies they need. (source: Dark Knight line. Hehe)
If filmmakers are saying that 'junk' movies we have now represent the level of mentality Malaysian movie goers, then I'd say that that is a false judgement. If it is true that our taste is only in 'junk' movies, then 'nutiricious' movies (Award Winning Hollywood movies, etc.) would not be able to make in his country - people would not go and watch them, and they would not be able to make returns. And as we all know, this is not the case entirely.
6) small fry
Redza dude, don't be a fry - not healthy. Be a carrot stick instead - a healthier snack. Hehe.
I applause your effort to voice what is wrong in the industry, but the path is a long way... Just be careful, please. We don't want to see people who believe in seeing Malaysia producing world recognized movies to be denied from continuing serving in the industry - anything could happen. Having said that, there are many who are here to back you up - I for one. :)
7) jangan pandang belakang
I'd say, up till now, I'm not a fan of any local comedy movie yet (year 2000 and onwards). Huh. I guess I'm a worse case than Redza then. Hehe.
OK.. I've been writing too long that I don't think people would have the time to read. Haha. I better end it now before I can write a proper thesis on this and become a certified movie critic. And that would be bad for Malaysian movie industry I think. I am not in the industry. My words are from a person who is on the other side of the camera and on the other side of the silver screen. I may not represent the whole, but I do believe I represent some.
I beg to be corrected.

I had my brief winter holiday in Istanbul with 49 other visitors including my parents. Thought it would be just windy but oh my, I forgot how cold it could be. Freezing but thank goodness no rain was brought upon us to spoil our days there. We explored the city of Istanbul for a week and I fell in love with the city on my very first day. Honest.
It is so beautiful. Of course, like any tourist's itinerary, I went to visit all the must-sees and I do believe they are all a must! The mosques and the view especially. So detailed in their architecture and just a lot of history. I loved it!
I got to see the stick of Prophet Moses and the beard of Prophet Muhammad. On my last day, we went the see a ceremony called Whirling Dervishes. If you have no idea what it is, here's a pic!
image: trekearth
Indescribable. I love Istanbul so much I asked from our professional tourist guide about work visa. Yes! No kid.
I'm not going to drag you any further. I let the pictures do the talking. Enjoy the photos, Devotees! Do share with me your experiences if you have been here.
( in no particular order)
p/s: Any other places I must explore?

An accumulation of statuses and posts in Facebook.
"Been watching heaps of disaster movies lately. From Deep Impact to 2012, I saw a lot of notable buildings and structures being annihilated during the apocalypse including the pyramids, the statue of liberty, the Vatican City, the Taj Mahal, and many more. Even Dalai Lama was killed in 2012. But somewhat somehow, something went missing I guess. And as a Muslim, I do feel discriminated by Hollywood."
"Amanda Knox just returned to US and suddenly, Steve Jobs died. That bitch did it again."
"If vegetarian is about eating vegetables, then humanitarian is about eating humans."
"Self discovery is bullshit. A brief self inquiry in front of the mirror is good enough to tell everything. Perceive how you look like, ask how great you are, determine yourself with your own measurement. It works well for me, though sometimes it could lead to the recurring thoughts of self destruction."
"Some nitwits who claim they have found themselves still tend to get offended over what others think of them. I wonder, were they in the journey of self discovery or the striving for societal acceptance?"
"Fapping means to me nothing more than effective sleeping pill. No sweet dreams, no nightmares, just sound sleep."
"Hinduism offers a distinctive concept of afterlife compared with other religions. Instead of aspiring an eternity in heaven, the goal of Hinduism is to achieve Nirvana, that is the freedom from suffering and individual existence. Such is the grandeur to end this materialistic way of life. By the way, happy Deepavali to everyone who celebrates. :)"
"Isn't strange that we are the only species that is attracted to nudity? I am also fascinated by the question of why did the early humans start to cover their sexual organs, initially their genital, but eventually their whole body? With the ongoing fashion trends of partial nudity nowadays, will it be possible in the future for our species to walk around naked once again? Or is it significant for us to preserve our sexual attraction to nudity?"
"Say I agree with the premise that God created us all physically perfect, therefore further modification of our body is strictly prohibited. Hence, it is wrong to colour (dye or whatever) our hair. Hence, it is wrong to insert botox. Hence, it is wrong to do nose/boobs job. Given such a premise, what is the religious justification for using braces? A person who was born with protruding teeth is prohibited or permitted to modify his god given perfect body? Or are braces Satan's invention?"

"I am tired of chewing gum, and I need an alternative. Also, my excessive coffee/caffeine taking has led me to have tremors at times. Since I am a passive smoker all the time, that most of my friends/colleagues are smokers (those motherfuckers are slowly killing me), so should I start smoking?"
"It is true that people love to convert everything to their personal property. Sadly, that everything also includes human beings. In the past, it was called slavery. Now, it is known as marriage."
"I could have been overly ambitious sometimes, for certain parts it is all too late to grasp that a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. What to do, human mind is beyond my aptitude to fathom. I can read written words not mind, I can decipher spoken words not feeling. Lesson is, leave the past in the past, the future in the future, and face the present of the present."
"Only idiots bathe unnaked."
"Hate is all we have to consume, no need to pretend you can be totally apathetic nor develop an absolute insouciant attitude regarding what others believe as truth. Particular self righteousness flows in our veins, we are driven by this manner to redress what is not right, then we get the reciprocation of being correct. Hating is just natural, it is the human condition we are bound to deal with. But why must we express it through effrontery and intimidation? Why must we hurl it with spite and malice? Hence, empathy and respect."
"Bacalah diari Anne Frank. Agar kamu sedar bahawa Yahudi hanya manusia biasa."
"You know peeps, I think happiness is not necessarily constituted by conventional sources (e.g., wealthiness or human relationship); otherwise it is embedded everywhere anywhere, even deep down in your ass. Unless there is any logical explanation of my euphoria after defecating possibly the longest shit ever."
"Anyone who wrote a foolish Facebook status should be punished to have it tattooed on their body, forever. "
"Being 'different' is by choice, but whining around about it for attention is poyo at its greatest extent. And poyo is rather too common than eccentric."
"I don't care what people want to believe in as long as it does not wake me up at this particular time. It's just not fair since I spent hours struggling in bed until I actually fall asleep only for waking up to a deliberate scream? This is oppressing."
"I am quite impressed on the way Asri conducts his ceramah. When the audience come to asking about hukum-hakam, he seems less interested with the inquiries and later proceeds to a more healthy and critical discourse. At least not like his irking contemporaries."
"Adam Adli is the first runner up of this year's best Malaysian trolls, only next to MHSAW. I am a total ignoramus of what academic freedom really is about, but pissing off the conservative bunch is surely admirable."
"Tahukah kamu, Malaysia pada suatu ketika dahulu dipenuhi dengan orang Melayu yang kool. Sayangnya anak cucu mereka pada hari ini lebih suka menonton Ombak Rindu sambil mendengar ceramah Ustaz Azhar Idrus."

Life is full of surprises, every day when we open our eyes and proceed with our daily routine it is like opening a box of present that we never knew what is inside it. That is why "now time" = present.
In life we have to remember that we can't live alone. No man is an island. It is the nature of human being to be dependent to each other and to work together. So when we are in the social setting we have to remember that everyone has their own role and responsibilities. If we missed one component then what we are working on will not be success and something might go wrong somewhere.
Let us take for example a Jenga structure. If we pull a block the structure will be less stable. Yes the structure still stand but please note the word LESS stable. Sooner or later, or at anytime the structure can collapse. The more blocks we pull out from the main structure, the higher the risk of the Jenga structure to collapse. Let us take that analogy and apply it in the human context.
In our life we are part of social settings. Each and every one of us has our own role and responsibilities. Whatever we do it will contribute to the betterment of the society, even the slightly simple thing. If we did not do it by the rule then we are like the Jenga block that is being pulled out from the structure. Then the society will become less stable and sooner or later the society will collapse.
So we have to remember that no such thing as small responsibility. The word responsibility itself is such a big word. So how could we say that a responsibility is small compare to the other? Bear in mind that if a "small responsibility" is not done or done properly nothing can be complete. So how can we say a responsibility is a small compare to the other?
Think about it.
